The Importance of Wellness at Work

“Be good to your body.
It’s the only place you have to live."

I read the words above as I entered one of my fitness classes. To this day, that quote still resonates with me. Everyone can argue that fitness should be a part of our daily lives, but many people state that they do not have the time for it. This is why it is so vital that wellness should also be practiced at the workplace. Not to mention, focus on wellbeing is a retention booster and increases productivity. With that being said, what are some ways a smaller company, like JZ Interior Design, can prioritize wellbeing at work?

Wellness and Weight Loss Challenge

This year, the JZ team decided to start a wellness and weight loss challenge for the first three months of the year. For those who wanted to participate, paid an entry fee, and will win the cash pot at the end of the challenge. We have bi-weekly check-ins to review progress and encourage one another to keep going. This challenge is aimed at giving employees a chance to implement healthy practices into their life and work routine.

Healthy Snacks and Catering

Providing healthy snacks and a list of healthy catering suggestions to our vendors for CEUs and lunch and learns is another way our firm prioritizes health. Easy access to healthier foods and beverages encourages healthier habits.

Sit-Stand Workstations and Office Flexibility

In just a few months, our firm will provide all employees with sit-stand workstations and more office agility so employees can work efficiently in different areas in the office. This not only supports being able to stand during working areas, but also encourages employees to move around in the open office. We all keep hearing “sitting is the new smoking” not only for your physical health, but also for your mental health. Humans were designed to be mobile and active, so it is vital that a company provides flexibility and agility to their employees.

JZ Design Group is capable of multidisciplinary design and architecture, with a team ready to take on any challenge. We bring quality, care and extensive experience to each project and look forward to our future opportunities.
