Shriners Children’s Texas has been seeing ongoing renovations since 2019. Although the original scope of work was to only renovate a few key areas to merge services that were moving from the Houston location, JZ Design Group had the honor to renovate nearly the entire hospital.
Level 6 is the Outpatient Clinics floor and is one of the first floors to have been completed.
Early in the project, the design team proposed that a wayfinding strategy had to be designed and approved that would inform subsequent interior design decisions including palette, iconography, and environmental graphics.
Working closely with our clients, their input inspired the final accent color direction, resulting in an engaging and positive environment.
This 3D directory integrates the color strategy and iconography of the entire building to facility wayfinding for visitors.
Inspiration for the development of this finish palette started with the wayfinding strategy. Starting with a neutral common palette, the accent colors integrate seamlessly at each floor.
Brighter colors are located at floor that have more activity and energy. Patient areas that are more acute have a more calm, serene palette.
A project goal was to create spaces that were designed to engage everyone from patients to their families and visitors of all ages including hospital staff environments. An example was to provide super-graphics that provide color-coded wayfinding but also an immersive visual experience that is uplifting and engaging.
Not just decorative, this immersive, positive distraction wall is also a game where visitors can search for their favorite icons.
Finding your way when you are not feeling well can be stressful. Clearly identifiable destinations help patients and families easily find their way allowing them to focus more on the purpose of their visit.
Spaces without direct views to the outside tend to create a bland experience without landmarks to provide visual cues. These super graphics help to create interest and brand integration in an emersive way.
This Gait Corridor helps clinicians evaluate their patient’s progress and recovery. Integrating ticks in the flooring helps patients to visually see their goals and clinicians document the day’s achievements.
