Legacy Community Health is the largest federally qualified health center (FQHC) in the state of Texas, providing high-quality health and wellness, social, and educational services to patients regardless of their ability to pay. The JZ Design Group team worked closely with Legacy to enhance their fundamental community health care vision of providing high-quality care to the historically underserved in their design of Wellness Bar in Montrose. Wellness Bar by Legacy is the first spa-like preventive services provider in Houston. The location offers general wellness care, free rapid HIV testing and connection to care for other health care illnesses. Bucking the trends of traditional health care settings, staff at Wellness Bar take great care to provide a welcoming and calming atmosphere. At the 2,100 square foot facility centrally located along the 82 bus route in Houston’s Montrose district, guests are greeted at the door by a Wellness Host and, after the COVID-19 pandemic, will be seated in the lobby where they can enjoy free WiFi access and a complimentary latte at the coffee bar. Additionally, the design elements, inspiring artwork, and contemporary lounge seating provide a soothing synergy to the inviting environment.
When visiting Wellness Bar take note of the neutral, calming palette, versatile seating options, and dynamic use of textures and patterns visible through the flooring, walls, and millwork. The JZ team provided interest in the space through tonal variations that allow the eye to wonder without being over stimulated. Guests will feel a touch of hospitality from the space and staff, instead of the more traditional clinical feel.
Appointments take place in exam rooms that feature upgraded millwork and comfortable reclining chairs instead of the typical exam chairs you normally see at a doctor’s office. The facility also includes two gender-neutral restrooms. It seems Legacy’s Wellness Bar is filling a much-needed gap in our healthcare system, removing inconveniences, and knocking down barriers in the process.
